Kim Kardashian Refusing Baby Gifts;Wants Donations Instead

Kim Kardashian wants her friends to know ... SHE DOESN'T NEED YOUR BABY GIFTS ... but there's a hospital in Chicago that sure does.

TMZ has learned ... Kim and her baby daddy Kanye West want to make it clear to family, friends and fans there's NO baby registry -- despite the slew of fakes popping up on the Internet -- and they don't want any presents.

Instead, the couple is asking all well-wishers to cut a check to the Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago, where Kanye grew up.

We all know Kanye and Kim have a TON of rich friends -- hopefully, they'll actually follow directions.

Ghanaian Stars Ignored At Amaa Awards In Nigeria

Latest information coming in from Nigeria indicates that the Ghanaian delegation of actors, producers and filmmakers who attended the ninth edition of the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) in Nigeria over the weekend was completely ignored, snubbed and left high and dry by the organisers.

Though the Ghanaian delegation were officially invited to the event, and the members were assured that they would be chauffeured from the hotel to the red-carpet opening ceremony, which was to start at exactly 5:00 p.m last Saturday, no vehicle came for the group until it eventually had to plead with Yvonne Okoro to use her Nigerian 'connection' to arrange a vehicle.

Again, when the Ghanaian delegation, including actor Kofi Adjorlolo, Eddie Nartey, Prince David Osei, Yvonne Okoro and several others entered the auditorium, they were shocked to realize that no seating arrangement had been made for them.

"I was invited as a special guest and was told that I would be presenting an award, but when we got there, the organizers could not get us seats. They packed us together and made us perch behind the bandsmen and their instruments.

"We protested that we are distinguished invited guests from Ghana and that we deserve to sit at the front row but not behind bandsmen. Eventually, they found us seats at the front, but that also came with its own drama. It was as if we were not even in the room because our presence was not acknowledged, and not even Yvonne Okoro, who was competing for an award had her presence acknowledged.

We just sat there like some gate-crashers and I was not even called to present the award for which I flew all the way to Nigeria," actor Prince David Osei confirmed in a telephone interview last Sunday.

Interestingly, reports from Nigeria said the Ghanaians were the most cheered on the red carpet, but the treatment they received from the organizers was the exact opposite. Previous AMAA editions have not been so as delegations from all the participating countries were treated like stars and their presence acknowledged at the event.

Cheetah attacks Botswana President Ian Khama

A cheetah attack nearly cost Botswana President Ian Khama his eye, members of his presidential office said.

Government spokesman Jeff Ramsey said Khama was attacked last week by a cheetah at the Botswana Defense Force barracks as the animal was being fed in its pen, the Sunday Standard reported Monday.

The cheetah jumped up at Khama, catching him and his bodyguard by surprise, and clawed the president on the face, the spokesman said

Ramsay described the incident as "a freak accident, but not an attack."

He said the cheetah attacked the president because it was excited.

Khama received a couple of stitches, the spokesman said.

"The bodyguard was present but like I already said, this was just a freak accident," Ramsay said in an email to the Sunday Standard, explaining that Khama occasionally checks on the animals.

Man Sentenced To 45 Years In Prison For Stealing Governor Aregbesola’s Phone

An Osogbo High Court yesterday sentenced a 31-year-old man, Kelvin Igha-Igbodalo to 45 years imprisonment without an option of fine for stealing a Sony Ericson phone belonging to Osun State Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola.

Igha-Igbodalo is alleged to have stolen Aregbesola’s phone during the swearing-in ceremony of the governor in 2010. The convict used the phone to dupe many unsuspecting people by directing them to pay money into a particular bank account on pretext that it was the governor’s directive.

The ex-convict was eventually arrested and charged with six counts of conspiracy, obtaining properties by false pretence, stealing, impersonation and advance free fraud. Igha-Igbodalo pleaded guilty to the charges slammed against him and Justice Oyejide Falola sentenced him to 45 years imprisonment to run concurrently without an option of fine.

Daily Trust learnt that the ex-convict had earlier served six years imprisonment at Ikoyi prison in Lagos over a murder charge leveled against him.According to the charge sheet, “Kelvin and others now at large in May 24th, 2011 impersonated the governor by using his phone with intent to defraud, and obtained the sum of N500,000 from his royal majesty, Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran, Owa-Obokun of Ijesha land”.

The prosecution, Mr. Biodun Badiora, told the court that the convict committed an offence contrary to section 8(c) and is punishable under section 1(3) of the Advance Free Fraud and other related offences Act, 2006.Counsel to the convict, Mr. Ameachi Ngwu, prayed the court to commit the convict to community service.

Nigeria's Coach Keshi Ranked 5th Best Coach In Africa, 27th In The World

Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi has moved one step on world coaches ranking for the national teams for the month of April. Keshi is rated the 27th best national coach in the world and the fifth best in Africa despite his triumphant run at the last Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

Keshi, who has coached in Togo and Mali, finally made an impact with the Super Eagles when he won the Nations Cup, became the second African to win the trophy as captain and a coach after Egypt’s Mahmoud El Gohary, but all that failed to give Keshi a quantum leap on the world rankings.

Video : Jason Collins, NBA Star Announces He is GAY

Culled from ESPN

NBA center Jason Collins on Monday announced that he's gay in a story for Sports Illustrated, becoming the first active player in a major American team sport to announce that he is gay.

"I didn't set out to be the first openly gay athlete playing in a major American team sport. But since I am, I'm happy to start the conversation," Collins wrote. "I wish I wasn't the kid in the classroom raising his hand and saying, 'I'm different.' If I had my way, someone else would have already done this. Nobody has, which is why I'm raising my hand."

The reaction of other active players has always been a question when it comes to an athlete in a major sport coming out. Other players don't get any bigger than Kobe Bryant, who tweeted his support Monday.

"Proud of @jasoncollins34," the tweet read. "Don't suffocate who u r because of the ignorance of others #courage #support #mambaarmystandup #BYOU"

White House spokesman Jay Carney called Collins courageous and said the White House supports Collins and views his decision as another example of progress and evolution in the U.S. as Americans grow more accepting of gay rights and same-sex marriage. Last year, during his re-election campaign, President Barack Obama announced his support for gay marriage.

Former President Bill Clinton, whose daughter Chelsea attended Stanford with Collins, also applauded Collins' announcement.

"Jason's announcement today is an important moment for professional sports and in the history of the LGBT [lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender] community," he said in a statement. "It is also the straightforward statement of a good man who wants no more than what so many of us seek: to be able to be who we are; to do our work; to build families and to contribute to our communities.

"For so many members of the LGBT community, these simple goals remain elusive. I hope that everyone, particularly Jason's colleagues in the NBA, the media and his many fans extend to him their support and the respect he has earned."

The 34-year-old Collins, who is a free agent, ended last season with the Washington Wizards after being traded by the Boston Celtics.

"Now I'm a free agent, literally and figuratively. I've reached that enviable state in life in which I can do pretty much what I want. And what I want is to continue to play basketball," he wrote. "I still love the game, and I still have something to offer. My coaches and teammates recognize that. At the same time, I want to be genuine and authentic and truthful."

Wizards president Ernie Grunfeld issued a statement on behalf of the team:

"We are extremely proud of Jason and support his decision to live his life proudly and openly.  He has been a leader on and off the court and an outstanding teammate throughout his NBA career.  Those qualities will continue to serve him both as a player and as a positive role model for others of all sexual orientation."

Celtics coach Doc Rivers said in a statement that he was "extremely happy and proud" of Collins.

"He is the consummate professional and he is one of my favorite 'team' players I have ever coached. If you have learned anything from Jackie Robinson, it is that teammates are always the first to accept. It will be society who has to learn tolerance. One of my favorite sayings is, 'I am who I am, are whom we are, can be what I want to be, its not up to you, it's just me being me,' " Rivers said.

Collins wrote that he first considered coming out during the 2011 NBA lockout, which interrupted his routine and "forced me to confront who I really am and what I really want."

He said the first relative he told he was gay was his aunt Teri, who is a superior court judge in San Francisco. He said she told him, "I've known you were gay for years," which made him "comfortable in my own skin."

Collins said he realized he needed to make his sexual orientation public when his former roommate at Stanford, Massachusetts congressman Joe Kennedy, who is straight, marched in Boston's Gay Pride Parade last year.

The Boston Marathon bombings earlier this month then reinforced to him "that I shouldn't wait for the circumstances of my coming out to be perfect. Things can change in an instant, so why not live truthfully?

"When I told Joe a few weeks ago that I was gay, he was grateful that I trusted him. He asked me to join him in 2013. We'll be marching on June 8," Collins wrote.

Collins said that he told his brother during a breakfast meeting last summer.

"He never suspected. So much for twin telepathy," Collins wrote. "But by dinner that night, he was full of brotherly love. For the first time in our lives, he wanted to step in and protect me."

Photo : Man breaks world record but see how his hands turned out

Tim Yarrow spent 10 days underwater and this is what his hands looked like afterwards.
Ever notice how wrinkly your hands get after a few minutes in the tub? Just imagine how’d they look after 10 days underwater.

Tim Yarrow doesn’t have to imagine it. He experienced it in November 2002, when he was submerged n a small pool located in a South African mall.

In the process, he set a world record for most time spent underwater. He was underwater for 240 hours, beating out the previous record, 212 hours and 30 minutes, set in 1986 by Michael Stephens of Britain.

Yarrow also won an unofficial (and dubious) honor as one of the greatest human guinea pigs of all time by “Outrageous Acts Of Science,” a Science Channel series airing Saturday nights that analyzes the science behind various strange acts.

Yarrow, was 30 when he dropped into the water for a week and a half. To stay under for so long, he faced many challenges including nothing less than breathing, eating and excreting. He dealt with the food issue by eating a low-fiber diet through a tube, attached a catheter so he could eliminate waste from his body and used scuba gear to maintain oxygen.

The most amazing change to his body was how the water turned Yarrow’s hands into what looked like wrinkled sausages, an effect that happens because of the excessive skin tissue on hands and feet, according to biologist Carin Bondar.
