Champions League - Atletico Madrid beat Chelsea to make historic final

Atletico Madrid
Atletico Madrid booked their place in the Champions League final to face their cross-town rivals Real Madrid with a stunning result at Chelsea's Stamford Bridge.

José Mourinho's men set up to defend against the visitors, but some individual errors proved costly and Atleti deservedly got the goals to make an historic final for the club.

Minutes after Fernando Torres had fired the hosts ahead against his former club, some poor defending allowed Adrian Lopez to equalise, before Samuel Eto'o conceded a penalty in the second half which Costa converted.

Luiz almost gave Chelsea a route back into the game when he struck the post afterwards, but Arda Turan finished the hosts off with a third goal to complete their demise.

In the remaining time, Atletico cruised to a deserved victory, revealing their quality to the world in having thoroughly outplayed Chelsea in London.

Mourinho will surely point to the rebuilding work to be done - his side looked a long, long way from being the best side in Europe, and even his tactical mastery could take them no further.

Nigerians are world’s heaviest users of ATMs - Report

According to a recently released study by EY, a global business and financial advisory firm, Nigerian bank customers have been rated the heaviest users of Automated Teller Machines in the world. The study also rated Nigeria as one of the top three countries whose bank customers use social media when making decisions on selecting a financial service provider. The study also shows that Nigerian bank customers have the highest banking sensitivity and are the second highest globally to close accounts based on poor experience.

EY’s Advisory Banking Sector Leader for Africa, Mr. Colin Daley said in a statement that they came to the conclusion after sampling 32,000 bank customers in 43 countries including Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa.

"Nigerian bank customers have the highest level of trust for primary financial service providers in Africa and second globally behind India. Twenty-four per cent of Nigerian customers have experienced a problem with their banks that required resolution. Seventy-two per cent of customers were either very satisfied or satisfied with the response that they received. However, 28 per cent were less than satisfied

India displaces Japan to become third-largest world economy

India displaces Japan to become third-largest world economy
India has displaced Japan to become the world’s third biggest economy in terms of purchasing power parity (PPP), as two GCC countries were ranked among the richest in terms of per capita gross domestic product, according to the latest World Bank report.

The 2011 round of the bank’s International Comparison Programme (ICP) ranked India after the US and China. The last survey in 2005 had placed the country on 10th place.

According to the report released in Washington, the size of Indian economy in terms of purchasing power parity grew to $5.75 trillion in 2011 surpassing Japan, which had $4.37 trillion economy.

In the latest ranking, India’s economy was 37.1 per cent of the US economy compared with 18.9 per cent in 2005.

Qatar, Macao, Luxembourg, Kuwait and Brunei were richest countries, or those with the highest gross domestic product (GDP) per capita on a PPP basis, which is used to compare economies and incomes of people by adjusting for differences in prices in different countries to make a meaningful comparison.

The United States remained the world’s largest economy (in 2011), but it was closely followed by China, once data was adjusted for comparison on a standard basis, the World Bank said on Wednesday.

Gross domestic product by the US in 2011 amounted to $15.533 trillion, over twice of China’s $7.321 trillion. But after a PPP-method adjustment, the figure for China rose to $13.495 trillion, breathing down the neck of the US which has dominated the world economy for over a century.

Switzerland and Norway are the world’s most expensive economies, followed by Bermuda, Australia and Denmark, according to a new ranking by the World Bank.

The economies with the lowest prices are Egypt, Pakistan, Myanmar, Ethiopia and Laos, according to a review of economic data, which seeks to compensate for exchange rate effects and measure spending power across countries. The United States, the world’s largest economy, was in relatively affordable 25th place, lower than most other high-income countries.

A recent World Bank report said Indian growth would be the strongest among major developing economies between 2013 and 2016.

For 2013, the estimated growth rate for India by World Bank was just 4.8 per cent, but the coming years will see a rapid acceleration. By 2016, the Indian economy is expected to grow by 7.1 per cent, a full 2.3 percentage points over the current rate. The inevitable comparison with China shows India almost catching up with China. By 2016, the gap between the rates of growth of the two major developing economies would have narrowed down considerably to just 0.4 per cent compared with the 3.1 per cent gap in 2014.

Eight countries, including Malawi, Mozambique and Liberia, had GDP per capita of less than $1,000. Almost half the world’s $90.6 trillion in total economic output in 2011 came from low- and middle-income countries, the World Bank said.

Compared to the last time the exercise was done in 2005, with a slightly different methodology and mix of countries, middle-income countries gained a bigger share of the world economy, at the expense of both high- and low-income peers.

“The United States remained the world’s largest economy, but it was closely followed by China when measured using PPPs. India was now the world’s third largest economy, moving ahead of Japan,” the report said.

The World Bank, explaining the higher raking for India on the PPP measure, noted that despite high inflation in India in recent years, prices in the country are still well below those in advanced economies.

However, according to the International Monetary Fund, India’s economy is 12th largest and only about a third of Japan’s in terms of absolute unadjusted dollars. “The economies with the lowest prices are either in Africa or Asia and the Pacific and include India, which has the third-largest economy,” the report noted.

Los Angeles Clippers Owner Donald Sterling Banned For Life, Fined $2.5 Million Over Racist Comments

Donald Sterling
Donald Sterling has been banned for life from the NBA and fined $2.5 million for his racist comments caught on tape.

Addressing the issue in a strongly worded press conference Tuesday afternoon, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said:
The man whose voice is heard on the recording and a second recording IS Mr. Sterling. And that the hateful opinions voiced by that man are by Mr. Sterling. That they came from an NBA owner only heightens the damage and my personal outrage.

Accordingly effective immediately I am banning Mr. Sterling for LIFE with any association with the Clippers association or the NBA. He may not attend any NBA games or any practices. Sterling would be barred from attending NBA board of Governor’s meetings or participating in any other league activity.”

Adam Silver also said he was financially punishing Sterling with a “$2.5 million the maximum amount allowed in the NBA constitution.” That while Sterling still owns the Clippers, Silver said he would “Urge the Board of Governor’s to force Sterling to sell the Los Angeles Clippers basketball team and will do everything in my power to ensure that happens.”

Silver ended saying “We stand together in condemning Mr. Sterling’s views. They simply have no place in the NBA.”

Los Angeles Clippers owner, Donald Sterling, had come under fire for comments in a recording attributed to him, where a man asked his girlfriend, Vanessa Stiviano, a woman of Mexican descent, not to broadcast her association with black people or bring black people to games.

Photos : Man murders 3 gay men by breaking their necks after seexx, to stop them from spreading "evil"

Muhammed Ejaz
Muhammed Ejaz,a Pakistani paramedic who murdered three gay men he met online after reportedly having s*x with them.

The  28-year-old father-of-two, was arrested last week and confessed to three brutal murders, saying he wanted to stop them from committing further evil and to spread a message that homosexuality is bad. , though police insist he had s*x with his victims first.

In an interview with AFP from his prison cell  Ejaz said..
'My way was wrong. It is tragic that the families have lost their relatives but they were spreading evil in society and I had to stop it.I wanted to warn them to stay away from this evil.I started going on Manjam(Social networking site) two months ago using my mobile phone, and found that the gays are everywhere in Lahore. They are spreading evil and transmitting diseases. They cannot control themselves.I tried to convince them to stop their dirty acts, but they would not,” he said. “So I decided to kill them.

Ejaz said he was the victim of s*xual abuse by an older boy when he was around 10 and had led a deeply unhappy childhood. He insists he is not gay himself.

'I have hated them ever since for what happened to me,

The victims were a middle-aged retired army Major and two other men, both in their twenties. All three were found with their necks broken and had been sedated. After examining their mobile phone call logs, police were able to identify Ejaz's number and found another former lover whom they used to lure him to a meeting a week ago, where they arrested him.

The killings have sent fear through the underground gay community in the eastern city of Lahore, with concerns that Ejaz could be lionised as a hero in a conservative Islamic society where homosexuality is stigmatised and sodomy is punishable by up to 10 years in jail.

"It Was All a Publicity Stunt,We Played the Media" - Psquare's Publicist

Psquare's Publicist, Bayo Adetu spoke to Icon Weekly magazine where he explained the reason behind the breakup reports

Greetings, Bayo, we heard that the Okoye brothers have finally reconciled, can you give us an insight on what really happened?
After a long laugh… My brother, I’m telling you this as a friend, there was no fight at all. The whole thing started after Jude tweeted some days back and bloggers feasted on it and gave it several interpretations which never existed, and that was how we got here.

Are you saying there wasn’t a fight at all, how then did Peter and Paul keep releasing comments through their Facebook accounts?

My guy, I can authoritatively tell you that neither of the P-Square brothers, nor even Jude operate their Facebook accounts anymore. Whatever Facebook posted was from an impersonator, pretending to be anyone of them. P-Sqaure is active on twitter, not on facebook, so you see, the whole thing was founded on lies.

If what you are saying is true, why did they all tweet a reconciliatory tweet this morning indicating that they have mended fences?
There’s one thing you should know, P-Square are not politicians, neither are they businessmen to be worried about what one useless blogger or the other has to say about them.In this game, bad publicity is good publicity. When we read those funny posts, we decided to play along with the general public and what they were meant to believe.

Yesterday, Thursday, April 24, 2014 was Jude Okoye’s birthday and he also used the opportunity to propose to his girlfriend while we laughed at the stupidity of some Nigerian bloggers.

We later decided to further play into their hands by reaching a consensus to tweet what they have termed the ‘reconciliation tweet’.However as a journalist, I am pained that trained journalists allow themselves to be remoted by Linda Ikeji, a mere blogger without any professional training to stall them from investigating serious news material like this. These days, immediately Linda posts anything on her blog, journalists just go there and copy and paste the story without any checks and balances, it is outrightly wrong, I’m really upset about this. She called me after posting the story and I just decided to ignore her calls, because I didn’t think we had anything more to say when the milk has been spilt.I have taken my time to explain to you this way because, you are a friend and did not join the bandwagon. As for those bloggers out there, I allowed them to write whatever they like; after all, they are consuming their Internet data, not mine.

NFF dismisses claims by Singaporean match-fixer

Singaporean match-fixer Wilson Raj Peruma
The Nigeria Football Federation has dismissed as 'totally fallacious', the claim by a self-confessed and convicted Singaporean match-fixer, Wilson Raj Perumal, that he helped Nigeria qualify for the 2010 Fifa World Cup finals in South Africa.

In a statement in Abuja, the NFF declared that the entire claim by Perumal was nothing more than 'distinct fiction' and insisted that the true heroes of Nigeria's qualification for the 2010 Fifa World Cup finals were the Federal Government, the NFF, players and coaches of the Super Eagles and the generality of Nigeria ball fans.

"We have gone through the fictitious write-up by the Singaporean, who was fittingly convicted for his nefarious activities and has spent time in jail. The NFF will only say at this moment that there was no truth to the claim and that we had nothing to do with Perumal all through the Super Eagles' qualifying series for 2010 Fifa World Cup.

"Perumal's statements are hogwash and have no legs to stand on. We have ordered for the book itself with a view to digesting it and looking critically at it. If the book impugns on the image of the Nigeria Football Federation, our players and the larger image of our dear country, we will take appropriate action," NFF General Secretary, Barrister Musa Amadu said on Tuesday.

Amadu said that further enquiries should be directed to world football -governing body, Fifa, since the match was a Fifa competition qualifier.

Furthermore, NFF's Integrity Officer, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, stated that alongside the NFF Match-fixing Investigative Officer, Dr. Christian Emeruwa, he is in communication with Fifa Security on match-fixing matters and they will dig deeper into the claim.

Nigeria overhauled Tunisia, Kenya and Mozambique in the final rounds of the qualification series to reach the first Fifa World Cup finals to be staged on African soil, in 2010.

Rescued Abandoned Newborn Baby Dies after being Rejected by 2 Public Hospitals

file photo
A new born baby abandoned by her mother was recently discovered in a swampy dump-site around Great Aduke School, Victory Estate in Iba area of Lagos. However, the baby finally died after being rejected by two public hospitals.

Vanguard gathered that the baby girl was discovered inside a carton by a young man (names withheld) who had gone to inspect his building site in the estate. According to him:
“on getting to my site, I started hearing an unusual sound. I kept moving towards the direction of the sound. As I moved closer, I discovered a baby inside a carton soaked in blood, still attached to the placenta. Immediately I saw the baby I raised alarm and
people gathered.  A woman among the crowd carried the baby to her house to clean up while I reported my finding at the police station.”

The delivery
Vanguard reliably gathered that the young mother allegedly took labour inducing drugs to terminate her seven-month-old pregnancy. According to the source, when the pains became unbearable the girl’s friend, in the middle of the night, took her to the house of a nurse on the street, who refused to attend to her.

However, her friend eventually took delivery of the baby at the roadside close to the nurse’s house,” the source said.

Recalling what possibly transpired in the night of the incident, one of the landlords adjacent to the scene of the delivery, who spoke on the condition of anonymity said:
“That night at about 2 am, we couldn’t sleep as we heard voices calling on the nurse that lives in that building. The shout was so intense, disturbing the serenity of the community. It was dark, nobody could come out because of the activities of oil bunkerers.

In the morning, I went outside only to find blood everywhere especially at the scene of the delivery but I was not sure of why there was so much blood everywhere until a man found a new born baby girl dumped at his site.”

According to one of the residents of the area, Iya Abosede:
“The girl is from a good background. Sincerely, I do not know what went wrong. Although she tried as much as she could to hide the pregnancy, the entire community knew she was pregnant outside wedlock. But we didn’t know she was capable of abandoning the baby after birth.”

Moves to save the baby:

Police on patrol from Adolf Police post took the baby to El-Shadai Hospital for first aid.

The doctor at the hospital after administering first aid referred the baby to Igando General Hospital but she was not admitted for lack of bed space.

From there the police took the baby to Isolo General Hospital where she  couldn’t also be admitted for the same reason. At this point the baby needed life support to survive, so the police carried it to Mercy Hospital at Adeniji Adele, where she was finally admitted and placed in the incubator. Unfortunately it was too late and the baby died.
