APC says Deputy Senate president Ike Ekweremadu who is a member of PDP must be removed from office. Senator Ekweremadu who was also the deputy senate president in the last administration, was elected deputy senate president during the controversial senate leadership election on June 9th which produced Senator Bukola Saraki as Senate President.

A member of the ruling party who spoke on condition of anonymity with Punch, said Ekweremadu serving as deputy senate president will adversely affect President Buhari's administration.

Fresh case of Ebola recorded in Liberia

According to the Liberian Deputy Health Minister, Tolbert Nyensuah, a 19 year old man died of the deadly virus.

"A new case of Ebola has been reported in Margibi County. The person has died and was confirmed positive before death. He has been buried" Nyensuah said

Family members of the deceased have been quarantined so as to stop the spread of the virus. Liberia was declared Ebola free on May 9th by the World Health Organization. A total of 11,207 people died from Ebola in Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone since the outbreak began in December 2013.

Wike gets approval to borrow N20billion, weeks after N10billion loan

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state, has gotten approval of from the House of Assembly to obtain the sum of N20 billion loan from Access Bank Plc.

The lawmakers gave the approval barely three weeks after a similar loan of N10 billion from Zenith Bank Plc was approved by the House for the state governor to execute “vital projects”.

 No fewer than 100 people were killed after an Indonesian military plane, C-130 Hercules carrying 113 passengers crashed into Medan, the third largest residential area in Indonesia.

According to Indonesia's Air force chief, Air Marshall Agus Supriatna, the pilot told the control tower that the plane needed to turn back because of engine trouble. "The plane crashed while it was turning right to return to the airport," Supriatna said.

Aregbesola commences salary payment, cuts pay of political office holders

Osun state government led by Governor Rauf Aregbesola has begun paying the salary arrears owed civil servant in the state.

In a statement issued by the Governor’s Office and signed by Semiu Okanlawon, Director, Bureau of Communication and Strategy, the government said it is paying the balance of November and full December salary arrears owed. “We must assure our people that serious efforts are on to ensure the remaining months are also cleared,” the statement said.

Discard PIB, cancel offshore crude processing contract, APC tells Buhari

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to discard the Petroleum Industry Bill, PIB, cancel ongoing offshore processing agreements and discontinue the fuel subsidy regime.

The APC in its recommendation to the President, also stated that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, is indebted to its eight joint venture (JV) partners to the tune of $3.5 billion, about N7 billion, stating that the debts have ballooned over the years.

 The driver and security guard of former Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Akure, Ondo state who was found dead inside a store in his home in Ijapo estate in Akure yesterday June 28th have given a vivid description of how they killed him.

Bamidele, who was fired by the late don for attempting to steal his car some months back, said he connived with Daniel Ita the security guard to carry out the act. He said Daniel lured the old man out of the main house before he strangled him to death.

The study of the Chinese language has become increasingly popular among young students in Lagos, Nigeria. As the West African nation continues to foster economic relations with China, students say learning the language makes them more competitive in the job markets in the East and at home.

The demand for learning Chinese, specifically Mandarin, has increased all over the world as the country is seen as a major player in economics, healthcare and politics. Many students in the West caught on to this trend about a decade ago. In 2008, Asia Society, a New York-based Asia-focused educational organization, reported that enrollment in Chinese programs among K-12 level students grew 200 percent over a four-year period from 2004-2008.

18 year old Boitumelo Dlamini was taken by four girls into a car, driven to a bush where they poured petrol on her and burnt her to death. One of the girls is the ex-girlfriend of the boy she's dating. Her charred body was found in the bush in Klipgat, North West, on Thursday June 25th.

Boitumelo's boyfriend's ex-girlfriend and three of her friends have been arrested for the crime and are facing murder charges and kidnapping.

Deputy Superintendent of Police, Tamuno Jacob Igbomie, who was Principal Security Officer to the wife of the former President, Patience Jonathan, has been shot dead by unknown assailants.

Igbomie’s corpse was found in his Honda Accord car last Friday along the Airport Road, Abuja. The former PSO, who was married with two children, was believed to have been killed by assassins who shot him at close range in his car and left the engine running.

NNPC yet to remit $3.5trillion into Federation Account

Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo state has revealed that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) is yet to remit $3.5trillion in the Federal Government coffers between 2012 and 2015.

Oshiomhole who is a member of a four-man committee set up to examine the accruals into and withdrawals from the Federation Account and the Excess Crude Account from 2012 to May 2015 stated this after the inauguration of the National Executive Council in Abuja on Monday.

The immediate past Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala might be called upon sooner rather than later to answer for missing billions of dollars from the federation account.

REVEALED: “In three years, NNPC generated N8.1 trn, gave Nigeria N4.3 trn, pocketed the balance”

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, generated about N8.1trillion between 2012 and May 2015, but paid only N4.3trillion to the federation account, Edo State governor, Adams Oshiomhole, said Monday, citing new details from the federal economic council meeting.

The balance of the oil money — about N3.8trillion — was withheld and spent by the NNPC unilaterally without approval or National Assembly appropriation, the governor told journalists.

Buhari yet to appoint Chief of Staff — Presidency

The presidency has denied reports that President Muhammadu Buhari has named his chief of staff.
Rumours were rife on Monday that Mr. Buhari on Monday appointed a former military administrator of Kaduna State, Hamid Ali, as his Chief of Staff.

However, the president’s spokesperson, Femi Adesina, told PREMIUM TIMES no appointment had been made.

Zambian ex-president acquitted over $2.5million oil deal with Nigeria

Former Zambian president Rupiah Banda was acquitted on Monday after a court case in which he was alleged to have personally benefited from a $2.5 million oil deal with Nigeria.

At a trial that began in early 2013, Banda was charged with abusing his authority in awarding the Nigerian contract.

“The case is dismissed and the consequences of this is that the accused is acquitted,” Magistrate Joshua Banda told the court.
