Donald Trump says he wants Oprah Winfrey as his running mate

Perfect fit: Donald Trump told ABC's George Stephanopoulos he wants Oprah Winfrey for his running mate
Billionaire and presidential candidate Donald Trump has announced he wants chat show host Oprah Winfrey as his running mate.

The business magnate and star of The Apprentice threw his hat into the ring yesterday to become the Republican's choice for the top job.

He says he knows Oprah and wants the popular chat show host to help him become president he told ABC's George Stephanopoulos.

'I think Oprah would be great. I’d love to have Oprah,' Trump said.
'I think we’d win easily, actually.'

He had suggested Oprah as his running mate when he was considering running in the 1999 election which he eventually decided not to contest.

Now he said that Oprah, who he knows, would be the perfect running mate for this campaign.

'She’s great, she’s talented, she’s a friend of mine,' he said.

'She’s a good person. I’ve been on her show. In fact, I was on her show her last week, she said, "Could I be on her show with the whole family?"'

The Republican hopeful also highlighted the popular phrase 'everybody loves Oprah', used as a tagline for her show that pulls in millions of viewers.

'I like Oprah. I mean, is that supposed to be a bad thing? I don’t think so,' he added.

Oprah has not yet responded publicly on the matter.
