New COAS, Buratai To Spend Sallah With Troops In Damaturu

Chief of Army Staff
Acting Chief of Army Staff, Maj.-Gen. Tukur Buratai said yesterday that he was travelling to Damaturu, the Yobe State capital to join the troops who are in the battle front in the war against Boko Haram to celebrate Sallah.

Buratai met with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja to get briefing on his new assignment as the new army chief.

Until his new appointment, the new COAS was the Commander of the Multinational Joint Task Force in Ndjamena, which explains why he was absent when the president met with the new service chiefs soon after their appointment was made public.

Buratai declined to speak to journalists after the meeting with the president, saying it was just some few hours that he got the job.

“I am just a few hours on the seat. We will be talking later. But I will be going to Damaturu tomorrow to visit the troops. I want to go and celebrate Sallah with them”, he said.

Sources in the president’s office told LEADERSHIP that at the meeting President Buhari gave the army chief a marching order to do whatever he can to crush the Boko Haram insurgents.
