Tanzanian President John Pombe Magufuli has yet again pulled a surprise move, banning miniskirts in the East African country, Kenya’s Standard Media reports.
President Magufuli has become a celebrity president since he took over from former leader Jakaya Kikwete, introducing a raft of measures that have been largely welcome by Tanzanians.
Magufuli is making more news again, this time banning miniskirts across Tanzania.
Standard Media reports that Magufuli’s reasons for banning the short skirts is that they encourage the spread of HIV/Aids.
Tanzanian women have since been given three weeks to rid their wardrobes of the “offending” garments.
